How long does a season last?

From 29 days and 10 hours (Capricorn season 2026) to 31 days and 10 hours (Cancer season 2027): the Sun seems to move faster in January, when Earth passes closest to it.

Why doesn’t a season start at the same time every year?

Because one lap of the Sun takes 365 days and almost six hours: from one year to the next, the entry into a sign shifts by about six hours, and the leap year brings it back a day. Example: Aquarius season starts on 20 January 2026 at 02:45, then on 20 January 2027 at 08:30.
