The three modalities

Cardinal
Cardinal: the gesture that STARTS. Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn each open a season — their basic move is the first step, the one that creates a situation instead of enduring it.
Fixed
Fixed: the gesture that HOLDS. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius sit at the heart of the seasons — their basic move is to stay when others let go.
Mutable
Mutable: the gesture that ADAPTS. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces close the seasons — their basic move is transition, shifting from one state to another without breaking.

The four signs of a modality are 90° apart: each modality draws a cross. Cardinal signs begin a season, fixed signs hold its middle, mutable signs end it.
